In his recent address to Parliament of Malta, Prime Minister Robert Abela highlighted the critical role of SiGMA, describing it as a strategic driver for Malta’s position in digital and tech innovation. He commended SiGMA’s contribution to diversifying Malta’s tourism industry by drawing high-value visitors and investors, especially in the quieter winter months, reinforcing the island’s standing as a European hub for digital sectors.

This conference is not merely a gathering; it also reflects Malta’s deliberate push to carve out a leadership role in the global tech economy. As international regulators, innovators, and financiers converge, Malta’s commitment to supporting forward-looking sectors, particularly through accessible regulatory frameworks and a well-trained workforce, is on full display,” said the Prime Minister.

SiGMA, in many ways, signals Malta’s economic intentions as it moves to prioritise quality-driven, sustainable growth, contrasting with outdated models of simply expanding workforce numbers. In Abela’s words, Malta is selecting industries that foster an economy that does not rely on low-wage dependency.

Prime Minister Abela’s remarks come as Malta invests more in green infrastructure and digitalised public services.

As SiGMA Europe prepares to welcome business leaders from around the globe this weekend, Prime Minister Abela’s vision presents Malta as a dynamic player in the tech and digital finance sectors, intent on building an economy rooted in innovation and resilience.

“The conference serves as a global platform for Malta to demonstrate its appeal to investors and policy leaders alike, cementing the island’s role in the future of European and global digital economies”, he added.
